A lone person clicked on this devotional from March today — and it prompted me to go back and re-read it. Just what I needed. How nice of God to allow me to remind myself of what He showed me 9 months ago. I was having a down day today…after following my own advice at the end of this devotional, I feel much better. Thanks God.
Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
Sometimes, my kids do things so adorable, it’s hard not to shout from the mountaintops that my children are the absolute best. I take great joy in pretty much every accomplishment. Each milestone, big or small, is met with exuberant praise and excitement. They never cease to please me and make me proud. How incredible to think that the mighty God of all creation is rejoicing over me in the same way.
My daughter is always trying to show me what she’s up to. Her coloring pages are displayed prominently on our fridge, she demonstrates frequently how far she can jump, tells me about the adventure she had with her My Little Ponies or the meal she recently “made” for her dolls. She easily comes to me with all life’s little accomplishments knowing that I am her biggest cheerleader. As she gets older and starts playing sports or gymnastics or ballet, I will be the mom decked out in her colors cheering my heart out for her. In the same way, we should be showcasing our lives to the Lord. Knowing that He’s rooting us on, singing a victory song, should give us the freedom to display ourselves openly to our God. This world loves to tell us we aren’t good enough. But God’s word says we are cause for our Lord to celebrate! Isaiah 62:5 says that our Lord rejoices over us like a groom does over his bride – now that’s some serious pleasure!
Next time you are feeling down on yourself, I want you to imagine the craziest sports fan you’ve ever seen. Head to toe team colors, a foam hat, maybe some face paint – screaming at the top of their lungs in undying love and support for their team. Think of the wild happiness and celebration that overtakes this fan when their side wins. Now, put God into that get-up and remember that you are His team. You are the one He’s cheering for. Don’t let the jeers and negativity coming from the rest of the world affect you – with God as your cheerleader, you can’t lose.
